Bridget Jones - Better than the movie
I've seen the movie numerous times in parts and pieces flipping through the TV channels. It's cute. I was curious about the book. The book is a lot better than the movie. First, Bridget isn't really fat and she most likely is not as homely as portrayed in the movie. As she says in the book she's been brought up in Cosmo world and that makes her hard on herself. She's also doesn't come off as dippy as on screen. She seems to be a good friend and maybe just overextends herself at times. The men in her life are attracted to her because of her perceived faults which they consider pluses while society is telling Bridget they are minuses.
Without Helen Fielding there would be no Sophie Kinsella or Jennifer Weiner. Chick lit is reading about everyday women and their hopes and foibles. I think it would be interesting to see the diary entries as they appeared in the newspaper. Since it's still so close to the beginning of 2008 I enjoyed the New Year's Resolution and diary format. With wind chills at -20 here in Chicago on Sunday I knocked this one out in a day.
