"The Perfect Man" by Naeem Murr was my Newberry book group's selection for March. The story did provide plenty of content for a lively discussion. However, in my opinion, this book is too much. Too much like "Peyton Place" meets "Bastard Out of Carolina" meets "To Kill A Mockingbird". There are all the makings of the Southern Gothic - murder, incest, racism. I think the author knew the characters he wanted in the book and then just put them into a story which was not very very connected. I think the author needed to dial it down.
