I'm not sure if "Sharp Objects" received as much hype in other places as it did in Chicago. The author lives in Chicago and writes for Entertainment Weekly. The main character in the story lives in Chicago and writes for a third rate paper.
This book features the reporter as the detective. It offers a lot of suspense and plot twists and while you may figure out the ending it's a smart book. I really enjoyed the way the author set up the plot and found the ending strong and shocking.
I kept thinking "wow, this would make a really good movie". Yes, the subject matter is creepy and not for the faint of heart. But Camille is a deep and interesting character. Even when she does something you might not agree with she stays true to her character. I checked IMDB and don't see plans for anything under this name so we'll have to see if anyone is interested in this one.
This one did live up to the hype.
