Right now I'm working on Book 49 out of 50 for 2008. Even so I feel confident that I can post my Top 5 for 2008. These books were such standouts that I doubt the last two books of the year will surpass them. I could be wrong, and if I am, I will edit the list. For the last few years I have been challenging myself to read 50 books each year. There are so many great books out there that if I don't push myself to read I might miss some. Plus it keeps me from watching too much tv. The weather in Chicago has been pretty harsh the past two weeks with snow and cold temperatures. That puts me on the bus or el to get to and from work. While I miss riding my bike, I do like the extra reading time. So without further ado - here are the books that I liked best in 2008.
1. "Elegance of the Hedgehog"
2. "What I Talk About When I Talk About Running"
3. "Mystic River"
4. "The Maltese Falcon"
5. "Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell"
For 2009 I predict more books about Paris, more mysteries, and searching out modern novellas to read this summer with friends. Happy Reading in 2009!
